Environmental Statement

Galaxy CI is committed to preventing wastefulness, reducing negative impact on the environment; re-using materials where possible and recycling the residue in order to recover the value of waste materials in collaboration with its Suppliers, Customers and Business Partners. Our commitments are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: specifically Goal 4 –  Education, Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production and Goal 17 - Partnerships.

UN SDG Goal 4: Quality Education

We are committed to raising awareness about the environmental and sustainability issues within our industry by sharing information via our website, social media, articles and journals, site visits, presentations, charity events and via dialogue with our Customers and the wider community.

We are also actively developing career pathways within the waste and recycling industry through collaboration with the Guernsey College of Further Education, other Employers and Les Nicolles Prison. We are participating as an Employer in the GCFE Island Operative Apprenticeship Programme, and are training our existing Employees as TAQA Assessors in order to deliver WAMITAB and IEMA qualifications. We are committed to the Guernsey Employment Trust Employment Charter.

We are monitoring and measuring our progress against this goal through marketing statistics and business development campaigns.

UN SDG Goal 12: Responsible Production and Consumption

We are committed to conserving the world’s natural resources. By increasing the re-use and recycling of electrical waste we can reduce the adverse impact on the environment caused by mining for raw materials, reduce energy associated with manufacturing "new," and reduce import and export to and from the island. We support the Circular Economy and abide by a Zero-To-Landfill Policy.

We seek to re-use packaging materials, hardware and electrical waste whever possible; and recycle those materials which cannot be reused. For example, if there is no market value for a particular PC; we may be able to reuse some of the component parts but recycle the exterior metal and plastic chassis and cabling. Recovery is the last resort.

We carefully audit our supply chains and off-takers and engage only with those who reuse, recycle and recover materials in humane, safe, responsible and sustainable ways.

We are monitoring our progress against this Goal via the monthly and quarterly stats recorded in our environmental management systems.

UN SDG Goal 17: Parternships

We continue to work closely with local environmental charities, and strengthen our relationships with other businesses, in order to raise awareness of reuse and recycling, environmental conservation and sustainable consumerism.

We maintain strong working relationships with other interest groups within the public, commercial and third sectors; and Goal 17 features prominently in our business development campaigns.

Continual Improvement

We are committed to achieving continual improvements across all areas of our business, in order to minimise our impact on the environment.

We regularly review our management systems and key performance indicators in order to identify where we can make improvements, in compliance with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard.

Our quality, environmental and information security management systems are audited by an external agency twice a year.
