IEMA CPD Training

In January this year our Business and Compliance Manager - Fran Browning - signed up to the Level 5 IEMA Environmental Management Certificate.

The 12 month qualification will take approximately 12 months to complete; and upon completion will enable Fran to obtain Practitioner Membership with IEMA (the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment).

Fran has just finished Module 1, which has examined the concept of sustainable development, global consumption trends, planetary boundaries, ecological footprints and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Guernsey Recycling Group of Companies (GRG) is supporting several managers though IEMA and WAMITAB (CIWM) Qualifications to support their continuing professional development and help them stay up to date with the latest developments and discussions relevant to the waste and recycling industry.

“I studied Geography with the Open University, but that was 10 or 15 years ago now and since then I hadn’t done any specific environmental CPD training. It’s great to be doing a formal qualification which uses current environmental data and analysis of of really crucial issues, such as the planetary boundaries.” - Fran.

Along with other members of the GRG’s Compliance Team, Fran will be using this knowledge to support the Group’s Apprentices when they start their own IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Awareness at the Guernsey College of Further Education next year; and will be sharing this content with the wider workforce through a combination of environmental and sustainability policies, e-learning and tool box talks.
