ISO Re-certification, 2021

Galaxy have again achieved re-certification against the ISO 9001, 14001 and 27001 Standards, following an external audit at the start of December 2021. The auditor praised the Team’s “commitment, positive customer focus, staff development and continual improvement.”

Despite Covid 19 restrictions and challenges, interest in sustainability has not decreased and Galaxy continues to align its secure services with Customer requirements, and environmental objectives.

“COP26 and the Right to Repair Laws have captured a lot of interest on island. We are seeing an increasing demand for secure erasure and remarketing services; as an alternative to data destruction and hardware recycling,” – Fran Browning, Business and Compliance Manager.

Galaxy, with the assistance of the Guernsey Recycling Group (GRG) has paid particular attention to developing its Environmental Management System this year, in order to be able to provide carbon footprint reports to each of its Customers by mid-2022 and achieve a carbon neutral status by 2023.

New systems mean new training; and GRG is investing heavily in staff development.

GRG has worked with the College of FE to develop the Island Operative Apprenticeship, which launched in September 2021. Apprentices will study waste Waste and Environmental Awareness qualifications at WAMITAB and IEMA Levels 1 and 2.

But as part of the next phase of its Learning and Development Strategy, GRG is looking to upskill its Site and Senior Managers. Alongside other Site Managers within the Group, Matt and Fran will be undertaking WAMITAB and IEMA Qualifications at Levels 4 and 5 respectively. In addition to that, Fran is undertaking TAQA Assessor training in order to be able to assess environmental management qualifications within the Group, in order to upskill the entire workforce.
